Imperial Bureau of Mycology powstało w 1920 w Kew Green w Anglii. Celem były badania nad grzybowymi chorobami upraw w koloniach Zjednoczonego Królestwa. W 1930 zmieniło nazwę na Imperial Mycological Institute, w 1948 na Commonwealth Mycological Institute, w 1990 na International Mycological Institute. W 1998 w połaczeniu z International Institute of Entomology, International Institute of Biocontrol i International Institute of Parasitology utworzyło CABI Bioscience.
